Murphy & David’s Cooking Instructions

We offer 3 delicious cooking choices below; cooking instructions can also be found on each label of our Murphy & David's Corned Beef package. Remove corned beef from package.  Prior to cooking, briefly rinse the juices and purge off the Corned Beef under cold water. If seasoning packets are included in your package, sprinkle their contents on the meat.  When corned beef is fork tender, let sit for 15 minutes before slicing against the grain (important) to desired thickness.  If not serving right away, place corned beef on a plate, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate.

Boil:  Fill pot with enough water to cover Corned Beef brisket completely. Bring water to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer in covered pot for approximately 1 hour per pound. Test for tenderness with fork and simmer longer if needed to get to fork tender. When Corned Beef is fork tender, let sit for 15 minutes to cool before slicing against the grain. This corned beef is fully prepared, additional seasoning is not required although is up to individual preference.

Slow Cooker or Crock Pot:  Cook Corned Beef brisket with desired ingredients in covered pot, filled with enough water to cover brisket, if possible. Cook on low for 8-10 hours, or until fork tender. Cool before slicing meat across the grain in thin slices.

Oven Roast:  Preheat oven to 325 degree F. Place Corned Beef brisket on rack in roasting pan, fat side up, with desired ingredients. Add water to bottom of rack. Cover pan tightly with foil and roast until fork tender, normally about 1 hour per pound. (If desired, glaze with ½ cup mustard, 3 tablespoons brown sugar). Cool before slicing meat across grain in thin slices.

I noticed the Murphy & David's Corned Beef has juices in it - is that normal?

Absolutely - it's normal and expected. Prior to cooking, briefly rinse the juices and purge off the Corned Beef under cold water. Rinsing the brisket removes any excess salt from the meat, resulting in a more mild flavor. If you prefer to retain the original flavor, put the corned beef in a pot of water without rinsing at all.
